I came across a nice game/activity to review money skills from arcytech.com that I wanted to share. This game works very well on the SMART Board since all students need to do is drag and drop the amount into the blue box. Here is a link to the specific directions.
I also wanted to mention a money game I found on tvokids.com that reminds me of the Connect Four game I used to play with my brothers when I was young. A money amount will appear in the green box in the upper left corner of the screen and players must click on the coins to match that amount. I have not yet tried this game using the SMART Board, but I believe it would be fun–ENJOY!

Math Interactives is a “multimedia resource that includes interactive math activities, print activities, learning strategies, and videos that illustrate how math is used in everyday life.” There are several lessons offered under the categories of Number, Patterns and Relations, Shape and Space and Statistics and Probabilities. Click on the category and then on the specific lesson to view. Some of the lessons would present well on the SMARTBoard while others would be best utilized as a review activity in a lab situation or for homework reinforcement. ENJOY!

Came across a fun fraction site called Fraction Monkey that works well on the SMART Board. You simply drag the monkey to hang it in the correct place on the number line. This would be great for fraction review. The main website at SUMS Math Playground also gives you the opportunity to try several different interactive math activities that are worth checking out. ENJOY!

Discovered this really cool site called Hitting the Target that is a great way to demonstrate and review angles by incorporating sports- very fun! In their words, “If you or your child are struggling with the idea of how angles are measured, whats the difference between right angles, acute angles and obtuse angles or how to guess the size of angles – Hitting the Target is for you!” The game presents very well on the SMART Board. ENJOY!

The International Monetary Fund has designed a great game to help students understand the concept of international trade. It’s called Trading Around the World. In their own words, “Play this game to experience the challenges and excitement of international trade. See if you can get the best price for the goods you sell and the biggest bargains for the goods you buy. Watch how the global economy is doing: the prices you’ll be able to get and the deals you can make depend on how healthy the global economy is.” This would be a great opportunity for students to have first hand experience in the world of economics and to use their negotiation skills. Here is a link to the Teacher’s Guide for this game. The first time you play you are given a game number so that when you return to the site you can pick up where you left off. ENJOY!

Heard about this really cool number line game over on Twitter today- thanks Keisa Williams- that I wanted to share. It’s a great, challenging, fun game to review adding and subtracting positive and negatvie integers using a number line. I would recommend and encourage first time users to check out the tutorial before beginning the game for some helpful tips. My friend Sandy emailed me a link to this great interactive Venn Diagram from TeacherLED that reinforces common multiples and works great on the SMARTBoard. You select the two numbers you want to use (offers numbers 2-12) and various numbers are generated below the diagram- some correct, some incorrect. When using the SMARTBoard students would be instructed to drag the correct multiples into the corresponding areas of the Ven diagram. The correct answer turns the number button green, the incorrect answer turns the number button red. ENJOY!
If you haven’t yet checked out the general TeacherLED site you might want to take a minute or two to do so. This site is filled with wonderful Math, ELA and Geography resources/activities to use with the SMARTBoard. You can discover all of the wonderful resources available on this site by either downloading and printing the resource index (click on link on the top right side of the page) or by clicking on one of the subject area links on the left side of the screen. Each activity brings you to a screen free of advertisements, which is a huge plus! Did I say ENJOY!
