My husband and I have been faithfully watching the Olympics every night– very exciting, very inspiring, very fun!! I especially enjoy watching the gymnastic and swimming events(go Michael Phelps-what a wonderful role model he is!!). So since my nights are filled with Olympic history I thought I’sd share some information that might help others who are planning some Olympic lessons. The Oz Project: Beijing 2008 is a site that offers links to activities based on the Olympics. I really like this site because it shares links that work well with the SMARTBoard, designated by the symbol iwb.
The BBC Learning English Kidshas a few fun Olympic themed activities that present well on the SMARTBoard, but are not very interactive. Word Hurdles is very cute- a picture of an Olympic sport appears on the hurdle, the player has to identify the sport from a choice of 3 (must touch the keypad) and if correct, the runner leaps over the hurdle, if not the runner takes a stumble!! I Can Run is an animated song– quite cute and The First Marathonis an animated short story about the history of the marathon. So if you are looking for some fun Olympic activities for young students check these out!
Olympic Games Beijing 2008 is a wonderful site filled created by Jackie Miers with links to every resource you can imagine about the Olympics. She even has a link that she compiled of resources and information regarding China. Both site are very comprehensive and so if you are searching for specific Olympic information this might be just what you’re looking for– thanks Jackie!
eMints National Center also has a great resource page filled with links that supply facts, statistics, activities, printouts, pictures, and more regarding the Olympics.
I hope these resources are helpful– ENJOY!

Have all of my fingers and toes crossed for tonight’s game!!!
If you want to test your student’s knowledge about the game of basketball check out the Fun School Basketball quiz. There are only 8 questions, but the quiz works great on the SMARTBoard since you just touch your answer from the 3 choices given. I like the fact that it not only tells you the correct answer, but it also includes a brief explanation with the answer-YEAH! When you finish the quiz you may want to check out some of the other basketball games that are available on this site. If you like strange, weird games check out SyKlops Free Throw.
Sy is a one-eyed alien who likes to practice his hoops in a most unique way!
