Happy Saturday everyone! I was looking for some interactive ELA websites to use with one of our Kindergraten classes and found one from Northumberland NGfl, with 18 interactive nursery rhymes called Readalong Nursery Rhymes. Each of the rhymes can be read or sung, each has a sequencing activity that works great on the SMARTBoard and in addition, each rhyme has an acompanying range of other resources including SMART Notebook lessons.  ENJOY!

Alex Rettie from SMART Technologies On-line Training Center sent me a link to a 30-minute training video on the features of Notebook 10. I thought it might be helpful to some, so here is a link to that video. Enjoy!

As I mentioned in a previous post, last week I went to the Notebook 10 Training  in NYC and it was great!  All of these ideas on how I can incorporate some of the new features into my Notebook lessons for the start of school are running through my head.  The Magic Pen is fantastic, the new properties options are awesome (especially the animation option), the Table Tool is super, the Shape Pen really cool, you can now easily incorporate Theme pages and not to mention all of the fabulous new interactive activities/games available in the Lesson Activity Toolkit- did I say YIPPPPPEEEEEEE!!!!!  So as promised here are some links that I hope will help you to understand and incorporate these tools into your lessons.

All of these links are from SMART Technologies. This first link, View All Features, will supply you a brief written overview of each of the features in Notebook 10 and the following five links will bring you to Quick Flash videos on how to incorporate these individual features in your lessons.  Table Tool: Create a table from the Notebook software toolbar, then insert or drag text, images and objects into any cell with ease. Magic Pen: Use this three-in-one tool to spotlight, magnify or zoom in on an image, or write notes that will disappear in 10 seconds. Draw a square to magnify an object or draw a circle to add a spotlight. Object Animation: Animate any Notebook software object with effects such as fading in, flying in or spinning. Shape Pen: Draw a freehand shape, and Notebook software recognizes it and perfects it. Create themed pages using elements such as fonts, background colors and images, and apply them to Notebook pages.  Themes: Create themed pages using elements such as fonts, background colors and images, and apply them to Notebook pages.

The other place that I like to visit for wonderful tips on maximizing your SMARTBoard is the :60 Sec Tech.  His videos are not only informative, but fun and enjoyable to watch.  He has created some Notebook 10 videos that I highly recommend watching. These links were found on Teacher Tube: The Shape Tool Pen, The Magice Pen,  and if you’re lucky enough to have a new SMART Document Camera he has created 2 videos addressing how to use this within Notebook 10 and to show science experiments in the classroom.

My hope is that this information makes it a little easier to locate some quick references and ideas regarding Notebook 10.  As they say–the possibilities are endless!!!

I attended a short hour long workshop this morning highlighting some of the new and improved Notebook 10 features and I was very impressed. I especially liked the Magic Pen (REALLY COOL!), the Page recorder  and the Animation options- all features I know I’ll be using LOTS!

We had our poetry reading this afternoon and it was WONDERFUL!  I was so proud of each and every student.  Many parents were in attendance, as were administrators and fellow teachers.  It is a true honor to be the teacher of these very talented, dedicated students.  As we presented and read their poems, I was reminded of the positive attitude, love of learning and determinationn each of these students possess everyday they enter the classroom.  It is heart warming and refreshing.  Naturally pictures were taken, so I have created a short video of the event, using Rock You. Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate with us, thanks to Ms. Dee and Ms. Ruth for always giving 110% to make our classroom the best it can be and a special thanks to each of my students who make my heart smile every day!

60 Sec Tech

I have watched the :60 Sec Tech SMART Board videos posted on Teacher Tube since I first started using a SMARTBoard a year ago, so I was thrilled when I came across the :60 Sec Tech site-YEAH!  Phil’s videos on specific SMARTBoard and Notebook features are fantastic – his demonstrations and explanations are not only informative and extremely useful, but also very fun!  The really good news is, Phil has started to post Notebook 10 videos– as my students would say, “SWEET”!  This is a marevelous resource for anyone using a SMARTBoard- thanks :60 Sec Tech!

red-sox.jpgIn honor of the start of Red Sox Fever, I thought it appropriate to share a website that I have found to be very motivating and fun, when reviewing & reinforcing addition and multiplication skills… Batter’s Up Baseball.  This game is very user friendly, mimicking a baseball game– sound affects and all!  It also works great with the SMARTBoard- an added plus, in Notebook 10, is that  you can easily access the on-screen calculator for those students who require that assistance. Directions from the site…

“After you select the pitchers challenge, a screen will come up with a math problem. Get the answer right and you move your men around the bases. Get it wrong and you get a strike. Three strikes equals an out.  If you get 3 outs the game is over.”

So as the song says….take me out to the ball game!!!

I had some time today to explore some of the new features in SMART Notebook 10 and thought I’d share some initial ideas/thoughts I came up with.  I am very pleased and excited that some of the interactive options are image friendly– this feature makes a HUGE difference when creating lesson for my students who need visual supports/PECS to complete and be successful in participating in lessons.  So if you want to check out some of my ideas click here: sharing-some-ideas.notebook

And if you have some ideas you’d like to share, I’d love to hear from you!
