School Time  Games is a site that offers several fun learning activities for students age 9 and older.  In their own words: “We’ve selected a variety of engaging games, puzzles, and activities that are connected to major subject areas in today’s school curriculum.” The site indicates that there are 200 games.  Several of these games will work well on the SMART Board- ENJOY!

The Plural Girls- double the learning fun!

The Plurals Girls is a fun game on FunBrain.com that reinforces identifying plurals.  “Twin sisters Pearl and Flora lost their friends in the bubble machine. Help them get their friends out by choosing the correct plural form of the given word.”With each correct answer a friend appears from the bubble machine. 8 correct answers ends the game. There are two difficulty levels for each game.  The multiple choice options work well with the SMARTBoard since the game gives you two answers and you simply touch your answer.  With the fill in the blank options you need to type/spell your answers.  You could utilize the SMART On-Screen Keyboard to type the answers, as long as the cursor is in the answer box.

So if you need a game to reinforce/practice plurals head on over and introduce yourself to The Plural Girls, Pearl and Flora, they’re sure to make you smile- ENJOY!

Many teachers are wanting to create review games as part of the end of the year schedule so I thought I would share a site that I learned about from ateachingheart over on Twitter called Game Templates and More.  This site offers a plethora of game templates created in Powerpoint.  Find the template you want, plug in the information and play! Most of these games will present well on the SMART Board- ENJOY!

Meet Harry the Hamster!

I stumbled across this cute little hamster while I was exlporing the website Fun4theBrain.com. If you want a little pet hamster of your own to love, here is the link! Watch Harry run on his wheel, drink water, and eat the food you feed him by clicking your mouse in the cage.  Click the center of the wheel to make Harry hop back on the wheel for a run.

Now about the site Fun4theBrain.com. This site offers some great, fun math games to review and reinforce addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.  It also offers games in the areas of English, Reading and Science Tutorials. In their own words-

”All games here were made by Exuberant Games. Each game goes through important information for a certain subject matter for grades Kindergarten through 6th grade. The math games are great if you need to review your math facts for addition, subtraction , or division. Be sure to check out our new games for other subjects.

A2ZKB.com

A2ZKB.com is a fun site that offers a variety of activities for young learners.  You access the activities by clicking on the side tabs of the book.In the Games tab you will find  Make a Snowman (follow directions) and Pop the BalloonOur House is also great for object identification- students touch the object in the room, a pop up screen appears and when the speaker is touched it states the answer. There also is an e-book called The Farmer and the Sun. To practice letter and color identification I use the Board tab.  An alphabet board appears with a color palette in the left hand lower side of the page. For example, I ask students to make a yellow A and they have to touch the color yellow and then the correct letter– like I said great for a review! ENJOY!

Math and More Math!

In case you haven’t heard, World Maths Day this year is scheduled for March 4th.  So I thought I’d share a couple of math sites that I hope will help students when “training” for this very important competition!  And as an added plus each of these math activities also work wonderfully with the SMARTBoard!

The first is math flash application that reviews/reinforces multiplication and division, doubles, halves, etc.  There is a very nice variety of skill reinforcement opportunities with this application.  Simply select the activity you want to use,  It is called Hit The Button.

The next game is from 4L Puzzle Plus and reinforces multiplication and division.  This game is so cool!  It is designed much like a slot machine- an equation appears on the screen and students need to type in the correct answer using the onscreen calculator.

If you’re looking for a website to review/supplement basic addition skills check out Harcourt School Publishers Adding Bricks. Two construction workers literally drop bricks from their wheelbarrows and students count/add the bricks and type the answers in the answer box.  A fun way to reinforce basic addition.

Found an awesome site from Saxon Math that reviews coin values (2nd grade). Students are asked to calculate the value of the coins in the box at the top of the page and then click on the correct answer from the answer field of three.  There is a score box that summarizes the session (10 questions).

Hope these games/activities help your students get in tip top shape for World Maths Day 2009! ENJOY!
