Who I am.
One hundred years from now, it will not matter what my bank account was, how big my house, or what kind of car I drove; but the world may be alittle better, because I was important in the life of a child.”
I have been a special education teacher for over 25 years. I have always taught students who present with significant cognitive and/or physical challenges. Over the years many people have said to me, “I don’t know how you do it” and my response is always, “I don’t know how I could do anything else”. I love my students and feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with some very special young adults. Over the years I have always searched for educational tools that would open the door of learning for my very special students. Last year the door opened wide when I began to explore the amazing world of SMART Boards. The SMART Board has been like a key unlocking the educational treasurers that have been unreachable within many of my students. The interactive component allows my students to express and communicate their thoughts in ways they never were able. I liken it to he Christmas classic “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer” when Santa Claus, led by Rudolph, lands on the Land of the Misfits, rescuing all of the toys. It’s Christmas every morning in our classroom when we turn on the SMART Board! The SMART Board has exposed my students to a whole new world of educational opportunities, in a sense rescuing them from a place where they couldn’t always demonstrate their true abilities. My students, like so many others, have always had the desire to learn and to share their knowledge and with the SMART Board that has now come to fruition.
I am married to a wonderful man who supports me and spoils me and makes me smile every day. We share our home with 2 young adults who have disabilities, Darren and Felicia. They remind me every day to appreciate what we have in our lives, not to take things for granted and as Darren would say to “be happy”! We also live with 4 rescued dogs, 8 cats and 2 ducks.
I have been inspired to start this Blog after spending endless hours surfing the Internet to find information that will support my students achieve their educational goals. So to all of you who have spent endless hours creating and updating your Websites and Blogs I have visited I want to say THANK YOU. I just hope that I will be able to return the favor by sharing some helpful information with you!
