I have been wanting to write about Wallwisher since learning about it during a workshop this past spring.  Wallwisher is basically an online message board maker– kind of reminds me of the message boards we all had hanging on our dorm doors at college, except this is virtual and no special markers needed! One of the nice features of Wallwisher is that there is no registration needed and once you create a board all that is needed is for members to click, write and post- very simple, very intuitive, very fun!  Once you create your message board you are given the URL for that board to share with people who you want to invite to comment on your board.  I have used this as a way to have students make comments/respond to specific articles/topics. I also hope to use this as one of our wiki assignments this year.  To initiate class discussion it is very effective to present the message board using the SMART Board.  I should also mention that in addition to writing a response participants can also add videos, pictures and music to a post. Also be aware that there is an option that allows you to preview any posts before applying them ot your wall- YEAH!  Below is an example of a Wallwisher. ENJOY!

I discovered a really cooooool site that allows you to create virtual sand art called Thisissand.com.   I remember as a kid going to the beach with my family and one of the fun activities we did was going to a beach vendor to create sand art in a bottle– what fun memories!! Thisissand.com is just plain fun and here is a warning– it can be very addicting!!  In addition it is very easy to use– just left click and you will begin to drop the virtual sand on the blank canvas. I should mention that you click on the gray box in the right hand corner of the screen for the directions. Press “C”to change the color of the sand  , “E” to erase the drawing, “M” to mute the sound (yes it even sounds like sand falling!!). Screen shots will save your creation or you can opt to save your creation to the art gallery.   The sand art below is an example from the art gallery.  This could be a very fun, collaborative art activity using the SMARTBoard.ENJOY!

I just recently discovered Photvisi- a very fun, very easy site  that allows you to create some one of a kind collages using your photos.  There is no registration, simply create and save (or take a screen shot)- very easy.  The collage above is an example of a Photvisi that I created of pictures of Darren, Felicia and Timmy. You are given 18 different templates to create your collage. This would be a great way to visually review or introduce a lesson or simply document an important classroom event. ENJOY!

Another site for some fun and creative ways to enhance your images is DUMPR .  In their own words “Dumpr is where you create marvelous photos to share with your friends.”  You do not have to create an account unless you want to save your creation to your computer.  So you can head over to their site, create a one of a kind photo creation, embed or take a screen shot of it to add your to your blog, wiki or Notebook Lesson.  Below is a Rubrick’s Cube of my adorable Violet that took me 3 minutes to create. ENJOY!

GeoNet is a wonderful site from Houghton Mifflin that offers some challenging geography games.  Players are given a choice of answering questions regarding a U.S. or World map and then given choices of different regions to explore.  Once you pick a region you are then given 6 categories to test your knowledge and skills. Players also can select between two levels of difficulty. This game works wonderfully on the SMART Board- ENJOY!

Click on the link to each game and a drop down menu will appear with options.  All of these games would be a great class review using the SMART Board. ENJOY!
