4965808I was reminded this morning of an online alarm clock that I have used in the classroom to the delight of my students!  It’s called KuKu Klok. You simply set the clock and pick the alarm sound you want– there are five fun, but somewhat annoying sounds.  I would use the KuKu Klok on the SMART Board as a teacher friendly way  to remind students when they were participating in an activity with a time limit.  ENJOY!

jamal_swinging_from_tree_md_clrThere are two wonderful sites from the University of Illinois with wonderful resources about trees.  The first is called  Dr. Arbor Talks Trees and this site offer interactive activities to learn about the basics of trees.  In their own words this site “focuses on tree anatomy and physiology. Students will learn some of the basic inner workings, chemical principles, and fun ways to get to know trees better.” There is even a state tree glossary where visitors can explore and learn about the state tree from eah state. You can receive a freeposter about Dr. Abor Talks Trees by completing the online form.

The second site is Exploring the Secret Life of Trees (which can be viewed in wither English and Spanish). In their own words–this site “is designed to help 3rd – 5th grade students gain an appreciation of trees, observe trees in their everyday lives, and develop an interest in discovering more about trees.” You can receive a free poster about Exploring the Secret Life of Trees by completing the online form.

Both of these sites present well using the SMART Board and have audio components- ENJOY!

I learned of this wonderful site from the BBC called One Minute Wonders that I wanted to share.  This site offers 13 “shows” consisting of a series of five videos that are all under two minutes in duration.  At the end of the show you are given the option of taking the quiz to review the information from the show. As an added bonus if you get all of the answers in the quiz correct you are given the opportunity to download a One Minute Wonder background image.  You select the show you want to view by clicking on the arrows to designate specific show number and then you can select the video clicking on the video or you can pull the “slot machine” lever to pick a random video.  These shows would be great to use as an end of the day activity or to jump start your day! So a big thank you to Joy over on Twitter for sharing this resource that presents so well on the SMART Board! ENJOY

My friend Skip over on Twitter shared a nice site, Triptico,  this morning that offers interactive activities/games to use with the SMART Board.  There are several premade activities such as a word magnets, timer, swingometer, etc. So you will need to take time to explore all of the activites offered.  An explanation is given for each activity and you simply click on “Use the Resource” to access the activity. All of the activities I previewed worked veru wel on the SMART Board. A big thank you to the folks at Triptico for making these resources available- ENJOY!

If you’re looking for a site to review the four major body systems then you have to head over to All Systems Go!  Students will meet Arnold who is in need of help to get his organs put correctly back into his body! Once you click on the start button the name of an organ will appear at the bottom of the page and players must drag all of the organs that belong in that system into Arnold’s body.  Be careful, though, because if you drag the wrong organ into Arnold all of the organs will move back to the box. ENJOY!

The Plurals Girls is a fun game on FunBrain.com that reinforces identifying plurals.  “Twin sisters Pearl and Flora lost their friends in the bubble machine. Help them get their friends out by choosing the correct plural form of the given word.”With each correct answer a friend appears from the bubble machine. 8 correct answers ends the game. There are two difficulty levels for each game.  The multiple choice options work well with the SMARTBoard since the game gives you two answers and you simply touch your answer.  With the fill in the blank options you need to type/spell your answers.  You could utilize the SMART On-Screen Keyboard to type the answers, as long as the cursor is in the answer box.

So if you need a game to reinforce/practice plurals head on over and introduce yourself to The Plural Girls, Pearl and Flora, they’re sure to make you smile- ENJOY!

Math Interactives is a  “multimedia resource that includes interactive math activities, print activities, learning strategies, and videos that illustrate how math is used in everyday life.”  There are several lessons offered under the categories of Number, Patterns and Relations, Shape and Space and Statistics and Probabilities.  Click on the category and then on the specific lesson to view.  Some of the lessons would present well on the SMARTBoard while others would be best utilized as a review activity in a lab situation or for homework reinforcement. ENJOY!
