Watch Harry run on his wheel, drink water, and eat the food you feed him by clicking your mouse in the cage. Click the center of the wheel to make Harry hop back on the wheel for a run.

I learned about this neat Interactive Number Line from the Oxford University Press over at Diigo.com on the Interactive Whiteboards in the Classroom Group. A number appears at the top of the page and students are challeneged to find that number on the interactive number line. Students must estimate where the number would appear, make a selection and then narrow down their selection until they match the exact number. This application would also work very well on the SMARTBoard. ENJOY!
Update- Jim Hollis from Teachers Love SMARTBoards wrote: I agree that this number line is good; on the 2nd step, SMART Board users will need to touch either to the right or to the left of center on the number line to get the number line to scroll. The farther they touch to the right or left, the faster it will scroll. This is because the movement of the number line in the 2nd step is based on where the mouse is hovering. Thanks Jim!

I learned of a delightful website to reinforce prepositions to young students that works great on the SMARTBoard called Monster Prepositions. There are two games available. Game 1 is played by clicking on the young child and following his instruction. If he says “I’m on the monster” you would have the student move the child on the monster. Very simple, very effective. Game 2 displays a list of prepositions and students must look at the picture and move the correct preposition to complete the sentences. Again, very simple and effective and works great using the SMARTBoard! So a great big thank you to MonarchLIbrary over on Twitter for sharing this awesome resource! ENJOY!

A2ZKB.com is a fun site that offers a variety of activities for young learners. You access the activities by clicking on the side tabs of the book.In the Games tab you will find Make a Snowman (follow directions) and Pop the Balloon. Our House is also great for object identification- students touch the object in the room, a pop up screen appears and when the speaker is touched it states the answer. There also is an e-book called The Farmer and the Sun. To practice letter and color identification I use the Board tab. An alphabet board appears with a color palette in the left hand lower side of the page. For example, I ask students to make a yellow A and they have to touch the color yellow and then the correct letter– like I said great for a review! ENJOY!

This morning over on Twitter I learned about this wonderful visual, interactive geometry site called Alphabet Geometry. In their own words:
“It introduces geometry concepts to your students by relating them to something they’re all familiar with, letters! And it does in a way that will keep their attention: Flash movies animate the letters so that students see more than static images (like the ones in textbooks).”
So thanks to MySMARTSpaces for sharing and to Jamie Tubbs, the creator of this wonderful resource! ENJOY!

I came across this very fun site that works great when addressing cause/effect objectives using the SMARTBoard. It incorporates two motivating factors– animals and music– which adds up to success!! Singing Horses, is just plain fun! When students touch any of the 4 horses they begin to sing and continue to sing until touched again. So if you want to smile, saddle up and trot on over!! ENJOY!

For those of you who don’t know it, today celebrates the 105th birthday of the marvelous author Theodor Geisel, otherwise known as Dr. Seuss. When I was in the classroom, teaching in the city of Springfield, which is the birthplace of Dr.Seuss, March 2nd was always one of my favorite days. We would celebrate by making “Green Eggs and Ham”, baking a “Cat in the Hat” birthday cake and inviting guests readers to share their favorite Dr. Seuss stories. One year we also had the pleasure of visiting the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Gardens at the Springfield Museums.
Each year the NEA celebrates and launches their Read Across America campaign on March 2nd, in honor of Dr. Seuss. This year Read Across America partnered with Kidthing.com and is offering 4 free Dr. Seuss digital books- WOW! The NEA also offer several downloadable resources- here is a link to those resources. Additional fun, games and activities can be found over at Seussville. com. Enter the playground area to find the Click and Play games that work very well with the SMARTBoard. Another fun game that works well on the SMARTBoard is “The Lorax Game”. There also is a very nice biograpgy about Dr. Seuss on this site.
It also looks like Google is celebrating by changing their fonts today to depict some characters created by Dr. Seuss. So there’s still time to grab your favorite Dr. Seuss book, make some green eggs and ham or bake a ”Cat in the Hat ” cake to celebrate the 105th birthday of Dr. Seuss!

Update- I just received a message from a fellow blogger, Jen, who told me about a wonderful site she has created with several Dr. Seuss resources. Here is a link to her site- scroll to the bottom of the page to access her links. Thanks for sharing, Jen!
