I was helping a history teacher locate some resources for her SMART Notebok lessons on early America and the colonists and I was reminded of the Archiving Early America website. This site is filled with some marvelous resources including several short movies, copies of documents, potraits, examples of early newspapers, maps, etc. All of this information can easily be integrated into a SMART Notebook Lesson- kind of like one stop shopping! So if you are creating lessons that incorporate information regarding early America this site might be an invaluable resource. ENJOY!

So I heard about these wonderful cookie-sized computers with some amazing applications and even though they are not available to purchase, I just had to share! Siftables, created by David Merrill and Jeevan Kalanithi at the MIT Media Lab these small block-like computers interact with each other to make a single interface. In their words- ”Siftables provides a new platform on which to implement tangible, visual and mobile applications.” Check out the video, you’ll be amazed at the possibilities!! From a Special Education perspective I can see these Siftables being a valuable tool for classroom instruction, reinforcement and not to mention differentiated learning. I, for one, am looking forward to learning more about these Siftables when they become available. ENJOY!

My friend told me about another great site for IWB Resources from the Educational Technology Center at the Georgia Department of Education. In their own words-
“Here are some links that can be powerful whole-group instructional tools when used on an interactive whiteboard. These are grouped by subject area and subdivided by grade band. These resources are provided FREE for all Georgia Educators and other educators worldwide by the Educational Technology Center housed at the National Science Center in Augusta, Georgia.”
So if you are looking for activities, games, lessons, etc. to use with your SMARTBoard you might want to head over to the ETTC page and check it out. Thanks Laura for sharing this resources. ENJOY!

The BBC has a wonderful interactive science site that explores the human body- specifically organs, muscles, skeleton and nervous system. It allows you to chose either male or female and then tests your ability to place the designated body part in the correct place on the body. There are options on the site to assist and educate so it is best to explore to see what would benefit your classes. This site works well with the SMARTBoard. ENJOY!

I came across this wonderful website, Mrs. Mitchell’s Virtual School, created and maintained by Kathi Mitchell, a teacher in Concord, New Hampshire. There are an amazing amount of resources in all subject areas- she even identifies sites by grade levels K-5 and Middle School (scroll down the page). One of the great aspects of this webiste is that once you click on the link you want to investiagte, say Women in History, you will discover Mrs. Mitchell has gathered and listed several sites for you to explore- it’s MARVELOUS and a huge timesaver. Thanks to Mrs. Mitchell for all of her hard work and most importantly for sharing– ENJOY!

Found an good site from Saxon Math to review coin values (2nd grade). Students are asked to calculate the value of the coins in the box at the top of the page and then click on the correct answer from the answer field of three. There is a score box that summarizes the session (10 questions)- YEAH! This presents and works well using the SMARTBoard. ENJOY!

I wanted to share this interactive spelling bee site to help students in grades 1-12 practice their spelling skills. Students in grades 1-8 will be given the opportunity to listen to three stories, one at a time. Each story will have empty text boxes where students will need to type (spell) the correct words. Students in high school will listen to separate sentences and then type (spell) the missing words in the text boxes. If students need help they can click in the box to hear the word again or click on the question mark next to the text box to get a hint in the form of a brief definition. Results are calculated at the end. You could use this activity with the SMARTBoard, using the Onboard keyboard. ENJOY!

It is a basic program for elemenatry students- identifying only 12 body parts, but is available in 6 languages. Students drag and drop the words to match the pictures. Clicking on the pictures or words will ellicit a verbal reinforcement. Works great on the SMARTBoard- ENJOY!

My friend Sandy emailed me a link to this great interactive Venn Diagram from TeacherLED that reinforces common multiples and works great on the SMARTBoard. You select the two numbers you want to use (offers numbers 2-12) and various numbers are generated below the diagram- some correct, some incorrect. When using the SMARTBoard students would be instructed to drag the correct multiples into the corresponding areas of the Ven diagram. The correct answer turns the number button green, the incorrect answer turns the number button red. ENJOY!
If you haven’t yet checked out the general TeacherLED site you might want to take a minute or two to do so. This site is filled with wonderful Math, ELA and Geography resources/activities to use with the SMARTBoard. You can discover all of the wonderful resources available on this site by either downloading and printing the resource index (click on link on the top right side of the page) or by clicking on one of the subject area links on the left side of the screen. Each activity brings you to a screen free of advertisements, which is a huge plus! Did I say ENJOY!
