There has been quite a bit of Twitter Talk about Jeopardy Labs over the last week or so.  I finally had time to check it out and I have to say it is a “keeper”!  Not only does it not require PPT, requires no registration, is absolutely free, is very user/easy friendly, but it also has several premade games ready and waiting for you to use.  What more could you want!!  The creation process is very quick and easy and it allows you to have up to 10 teams.  Just realize that all templates you create do appear on their public domain.  And you need to remember the URL to access your finished game.  So a great big THANK YOU to Matt Johnson over at WSUV for developing this amazing tool! ENJOY!

Bomomo is a wonderfully fun site that allows students to express their artistic side. An art teacher friend of mine calls it ” Abstract Mouse Art”.  It reminds me of my days as a child when I would spend hours creating a design on my Etcher Sketch.  To use Bomomo you simply chose (click) one of the tools from the toolbar (there are 18 and they all do very cool things), move your mouse around and left click and hold to “paint”.  Just a word of caution, some of the tools will erase the paint so you may want to have students experiment with the tools so they understand their functions. This may help avoid a disaster! You can easily save and print your creation. This application is completely free, with no registration required and no ads- YEAH!

Here is a link to some Bomomo creations found on Flickr. The Bomomo that I created is below. ENJOY!

With Valentine’s Day knocking on our door I thought I would share this really cool text tool that a friend shared with me.  This tool will transform typed text into the coolest heart shape!!  Students absolutely love this!  It’s found on Festisite Tools.  There are six tools (all very cool), but to achieve the heart shape you would have the students write type their text in a Word Document, copy the text, click on “Valentine”, click the text button (remove any text that may appear in the text box), paste the text in the text box, click effect and pick the font options, click print and your one of a kind design is ready to be printed!! Students are very motivated to complete a writing assignment if they know at the end they can create a special text effect! ENJOY!

Just as a side note- don’t forget to check out some of the other tools this site offers.  You could have your students write short essays about the planets and then use the circle feature to make the text simulate the round planets.  They could then take that “round” text and glue it onto the corresponding planet– this could make an inspiring bulletin board!  Feel free to share any other ideas you might have.

I have been asked by elementary teachers for math videos that would support and supplement math skills.  Videos that they could use as an introduction to a new skills or a review of skills that students might be struggling with. I immediately thought of the video section on Math Playground.  Not only could teachers use these videos for instruction purposes, but they could also direct students to these videos for review and support at home.  The math videos available range from addition and subtraction, percentages, decimals, measurement and data, etc.  ENJOY!

I wanted to share a wonderfully fun math game that works great on the SMART Board and reviews/reinforces multiplication skills, Ghost Blasters.  You can set the number (2-20) that you want to review by clicking either arrow on the sides of the number.  Once you pick the number the students have to touch the numbers, as they appear on the screen, that are multiples of that main number.  It can be quite challenging, and as I said a fun way for reinforcement.  ENJOY!
