Read/Write/Thinkhas a great educational game that teaches/reinforces letter and vowel sounds and works super with the SMARTBoard, called Picture Match. There actually are 3 games to pick from– beginning letter sounds, short vowel sounds and long vowel sounds. Pictures appear on the screen, with audio support, and the student must touch the correct letter and/or vowel box. If correct, the picture is put in the box. It’s very user friendly and is a fun way to review these skills. ENJOY!

I discovered a fun site on the Learning Planet for letter identification- Alphabet Action. Using the SMARTBoard students would touch a letter to hear its name and see a picture that begins with that letter. There is audio- it says the letter. A nice activity for letter review. ENJOY!

The Learning Planet has a really fun game called ABC Order, that teaches and reinforces the skill of putting letters in alphabetical order. It has fun animations, sound and works very well with the SMARTBoard since students merely touch the letter that comes next in the alphabet sequence. ENJOY!

Read/Write/Think has an educational game, Word Wizard, that tests spelling skills using the theme of 4 very popular children’s books. I would recommend reading the book with your students first and then completing the games. The games work well with the SMARTBoard sine the students simply click and drag the correct letters to spell the answer. Oh yeah, and it also gives audio input. Also want to mention that there are different levels (noted in the left hand corner of the screen by the book)- so when you complete the first round click “go” to begin the next level. ENJOY!
What Time is It? September 2, 2008

A few folks have asked me if I have any suggestions about sites that teach/review telling time using analogue clocks. I have a few sites that I’ve used in the past -all working well with the SMARTBoard. Clock Work the Time Telling Game displays three clocks- students should read the sentence above the clocks and then click on the clock that displays the correct answer. The next site is the clock activity from Ambleside Primary School. Using the icons in the “Move the Hand” box you can set the clock and ask students to tell you the time or you an ask the students to set the clock to a specific time. The site Clock Talk is a fun site- mostly because of “Mrs. Clock” who gives you a time, describes what might happen at that time and then asks you to move the hands of the clock to designate that time. The next site, Stop the Clock, challenges students to match five digital times to the correct analog clock and times your work. Another site that challenges students to match digital times with an analogue clock is What Time is It?. Students are shown four digital clocks and have to match the correct time to the analog clock. Hope these site help– ENJOY!

In my new role as the Instructional Technology Specialist I have been asked by the Special Education Director to create an Intellitools training for teachers and therapists. As I started to design the Notebook Presentation I was again reminded about how well Intellitools works with the SMARTBoard. Classroom Suite 4 is very user friendly, with pre-made activities/templates along with fantastic directions and how to’s to individualize your lessons. They offer a 30 Day Trial Download (at bottom of page) so you can explore the options and see if it is something that would enhance your curriculum. There also is a great Activity Exchange page (you need to register) that is overflowing with premade activities that have been submitted by teachers- an awesome resource! ENJOY!
